Once again the Nikon achieved a fine balance of hard light and soft shadow exposure of this 1938 Bugatti.
There are several engineering expressions here. One is the acceptance of the total dominance of the Reich Mark backed Mercedes and Auto Union teams in Grand Prix. Here we see a return to the successful days of the Bugatti T35 with the twin seat cockpit implying a broader road racing schedule. The T35 having been designed for the 1924 French GP at Lyon, while making its bones as a road racer at the Targa Florio. Consequently becoming the largest selling, and most successful, privateer racer of the period.
Beneath the hood we see the evolution of the Bugatti twin cam. The original twin cam as appeared in the T51 was based on the two Harry Miller GP cars bought by Ettore at Monza in 1925. This twin cam is a complete reworked by his son Jean.
