1912 70HP Roadster
An American car built to compete with Europe's finest in the 7th Avenue showroom of Smith & Mabley. The competition at S&M were the Roi de Belges limousines
of Mercedes, Panhard & Renault as the Twentieth Century's first decade rolled out.
Built of the finest materials, Simplex found a market at half the price, which was still a princely $6500. Through its various iterations and directors, it remained a high performance car. Power came from a twin cam in crank T-Head, which took the power to the ground through a transaxle with dual chain drive.
The quality of its nickel steel frame and alloy components insured it was a car of superb power to weight. This was particularly pronounced in its 70hp Roaster. Just think
twin rooster tails of dirt arching behind those twin chain-drive wheels when driven in anger.
